Novopolotsk State Musical College was founded in 1968 (according to the order of the Ministry of Culture of the BSSR, July 23, 1968). More than 2000 professionals have graduated from the college for 53 years.
The first director of the musical college Boris Petrovich Polyakov formed a strong pedagogical staff, having invited bright talented people, inspired musicians to the city of Novopolotsk. Among them are choirmasters L. A. Zhukova, G.A. Mileshko, S.V. Lukyanova, musicologists A.N. Zarubko, N. L. Vashkevich, R. N. Merkhasina, bayan-player V. Platonov, pianist S. Muravyova, literature expert L.E. Stupakova. The teaching was conducted in 5 specialties. Today the musical college has 7 departments, where high-skilled specialists of several generations work. Succession of generations helps the collective to keep traditions.
Since 1988 Alexander Ivanovich Kondratyuk heads the musical college. Now the director of the musical college is N.I. Molisova.
A huge historical and creative contribution to development of the college was made by M. M. Minkovich, V. T. Borsch, O.S. Kudryavtseva, L. I. Polyakova, E. S. Martos, N. and I. Khotylyovs, M.I. Ivashkin, U. A. Bauskov, I.I. Kachan, T. A. Tsygankova, V. S. Kudryavtsev, L.V. Bezmen, A.M. Bogomolov, S. M. Mazurina. The following people are well-known in the republic as pedagogues, methodologists and concert performers as well as: G. V. Malykh and V. L. Malykh, A. I. Kondratyuk, L. I. Ostroukhova, N. A. Kolotsei, N. S. Kushnaryova, T. N. Ivashkina, A. M. Sinitsyna, M. V. Starostenkova, T. V. Nikulina, E. P. Kirillova, E. N. Vasilyeva.
The pride of the musical college is its creative groups: the orchestra of Russian folk instruments /the conductor – V. L. Malykh/, the bayan orchestra /the conductor – A. I. Kondratyuk/, academic chorus /the conductor – S. V. Trushina/, the chorus of folk songs “Rechenka” /the conductor - Lubchonok/, ensemble of folk songs “Verbitsa” /the conductor M.V. Lubchonok/
In 1998 a musical school for talented children was opened. The head of the practical department N.L. Borovskaya run the school. It helps to create an effective 2-step system of the work of young musicians and experiences teachers and to achieve high results.
The stuff of the educational establishment Polotsk Musical College see their aim in preserving cultural originality of the region, interest to art and musical traditions.
The complexity of present situation has influenced the material equipment of the institution, but hasn’t changed views and positions of its colleagues, who see in art and pedagogy sense of life and their main occupation.
The stuff team is inspired and creative, in its everyday work it proves continuity and vitality of Belarusian spiritual values.
• Bayan orchestra
Bayan orchestra is one of the brightest student collectives of the vocation schools of Belarus. Its head, A. I. Kondratyuk, is a spirited, versatile conductor. Huge devotion, creative unity with the orchestra make concert programmes emotionally tense and visually impressive. The orchestra is a 6-time winner of republican contests of orchestra and chorus collectives of vocation schools. The rich repertuar of the orchestra includes Russian and foreign classics, virtuoso fantasies on folk melodies, original authour works, in particular the ones specially written for this collective. In the orchestra play talented soloists (xylophone, trumpet, saxophone), who bring new colours to the musical range of the orchestra.
• Russian folk instruments orchestra.
Russian folk instrument orchestra possesses wide picturesque and performing possibilities. The collective is distinguished for a high culture of performance, subtlety of musical interpretation. The orchestra has taken part in republican contests and received prizes. Outstanding specialists at the head of the orchestra – G. V. Malykh and V. L. Malykh have contributed much to it. The orchestra repertoire includes compositions of world classic (for example Sibelius, A. Lyadov, T. Albinoni), and adaptation of tunes of different nations. But a special place belongs to Belarusian music compositions, among them are the plays of the orchestra head V. Malykh. V. Malykh’s music is known and loved in Belarus. His compositions are on the list of obligatory ones in contest programs. He has created a unique and original repertory for the orchestra.
Belarusian virtuoso, frequent winners of international contests N. Rudko, N. Korsak, V. Pligovka who have played with the orchestra many times all were members of the group.
• Brass orchestra
The brass orchestra of Novopolotsk State Musical College enjoys popularity in Polotsk region. Its colorful, fiery repertoire, emotional performance and talented soloist can add zest to any concert.
The orchestra was at different periods headed by M. Minkovich, O. Baron, F. Zavt, V. Nikiforov, R. Rak, V.I. Yukhnevich. The collective is the winner of many republican contests and festivals of spiritual music, the laureate of the republican competition of orchestra and chorus collectives of vocational schools (the first prize, 1992).
